ANTTILA & KOPIO
2017: MISREPRESENTATIONS
Misrepresentations was Laura Kopio's and Rita Anttila's second joint space installation. Misrepresentations was process of working with material by covering, cutting, borrowing, combining, taping and recycling. In the process, the authors modifyed material surfaces, behind which seeing does not change the message of the image. The starting point was emotion from exposure to surface attractiveness.
An exhibition in the theatre hall, continued the visual power structures reviewed and equated the material previously produced by the working couple with a new entity. Works were placed on the stage, combining a surface borrowed from an advertising catalogue, a working couple's material of previous works, reflective aluminum tape and plastic. Misrepresentations searched surface grievances, reworked the images and showed what the image culture of the 2010s felt like.
